Ripple announced or expanded three deals in two days, all pointing the same way: more regulated infrastructure for RLUSD, its US dollar stablecoin, and more institutional custody of XRP and RLUSD [1]. On October 26 the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency gave final approval to Ripple National Trust Bank. On October 27, BNY expanded its partnership with Ripple, and Robinhood named RLUSD a key stablecoin in its digital asset ecosystem [1].

The national trust charter

The OCC approval is the largest of the three. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said on X that the charter "gives Ripple a federally supervised platform to support RLUSD and provide digital asset custody to enterprises" [1]. Ripple President Monica Long said the company's focus is "making these tokenized assets usable for payments and collateral across financial markets" [1]. The reports do not list any conditions attached to the final approval, so that is worth checking in the OCC's own documentation before drawing conclusions about its scope.

BNY: custody, and a step toward trade finance

BNY is one of the largest custodians in the world, so supporting XRP and RLUSD on its platform matters more for institutional access than for retail trading. The report says BNY is also exploring tokenized trade finance, which is still at the exploration stage [1]. XRP rose about 2% on the news, according to Benzinga's coverage [3].

Robinhood and Bitstamp

RLUSD is already live on Robinhood Chain and on Bitstamp by Robinhood. The report says it is expected on the Robinhood app later this year, which is the step that would put it in front of retail users [1].

Cross River Bank and X Money

Cross River Bank provides the banking infrastructure behind X Money. Its partnership with Ripple adds RLUSD to its core platform, with 24/7 settlement, wire transfers and a single API for businesses. The report says XRP Ledger transactions typically settle in three to five seconds, and that RLUSD has over $1 billion issued on the XRP Ledger [2].

The partnership has led to speculation that X Money could use Ripple's technology, including for XRP payments. Neither company has confirmed any X Money integration with Ripple, RLUSD or the XRP Ledger, so that remains unconfirmed [2].

What the price is doing

XRP was $1.29 on October 26, down about 0.6% over seven days [4]. The partnership news has not yet moved the price in a sustained way. XRP's price is still tied to the broader market, which fell in late October on the AI worries and Fed risk covered in our market piece.
