Ask around the XRP community and you'll hear that hundreds of banks are already "plugged in," waiting for a switch to be flipped. The real picture is more interesting, and more useful to anyone trying to value the asset. A growing list of serious institutions are live on Ripple's products and the XRP Ledger today. But "XRP adoption" gets used for three very different things, and most announcements fall into only one of them.
Keeping those apart is the key to reading the headlines. Below, every institution is grouped by what has actually been confirmed, with the source linked.
Live on the XRP Ledger
Confirmed · LiveThese institutions have issued real assets on XRPL. This is the strongest evidence of ledger adoption.
Société Générale–FORGE Feb 2026
The French banking group's digital-asset arm launched its EUR CoinVertible euro stablecoin on XRPL, citing low costs and fast settlement, with Ripple providing custody [1]. About $11.6 million of SocGen assets sat on the ledger by August [2].
DBS & Franklin Templeton Sep 2025
Singapore's largest bank listed Franklin Templeton's tokenized money market fund (sgBENJI) alongside RLUSD on DBS Digital Exchange, both on XRPL, so clients can switch between them 24/7 and potentially use the fund as collateral [3].
Aviva Investors Jul 2026
Launched a tokenized share class of its US Dollar Liquidity Fund on XRPL with Ripple, its first tokenized fund. The Central Bank of Ireland approved the structure [4].
Altogether, real-world assets on XRPL crossed $3 billion in May 2026, across 291 projects [6]. One caveat: over half of that figure came from a single energy token (about $1.76 billion), so the institutional share is smaller than the headline suggests [6].
Actually using the XRP token
Confirmed · XRPThis is the group the "switch" narrative is really about: firms that use XRP itself to move money.
SBI Remit (Japan) Since 2021
Uses Ripple's On-Demand Liquidity with XRP as the bridge currency, from Japan to the Philippines (via Coins.ph) and, since 2023, to Vietnam and Indonesia (via Tranglo). More than half of Ripple's global On-Demand Liquidity volume is reported to flow through Japanese corridors [7].
This is the clearest example of steady, recurring XRP demand from a regulated firm. It is also notable how short this list is compared with the others. We could not find a primary source confirming any major bank using XRP as a bridge asset in production.
Live on Ripple's payment rails
Confirmed · LiveThese are real, production bank deployments of Ripple Payments. Neither announcement confirms XRP is used in the flow.
AMINA Bank (Switzerland) Dec 2025
The FINMA-regulated crypto bank became the first European bank on Ripple Payments for near real-time cross-border payments. Earlier in 2025 it became the first bank globally to support RLUSD [8].
Jeonbuk Bank (South Korea) Aug 2026
Korea's first regional bank to deploy Ripple Payments, offering faster remittances to exporters, startups and creators [9].
Pilots and announced plans
In progressThese are serious names, but not yet in production at scale.
Mastercard, WebBank & Gemini Nov 2025
A pilot to settle Gemini credit card transactions in RLUSD on XRPL, pending regulatory approvals [10].
Convera Apr 2026
The former Western Union business-payments unit, handling about $190 billion a year, plans to settle in RLUSD on XRPL between fiat legs. No live corridors have been disclosed, and XRP itself is not part of the deal [11].
Kyobo Life (South Korea) Apr 2026
Piloting tokenized settlement of Korean government bonds through Ripple Custody, aiming to shrink T+2 settlement to near real time [12].
Kbank (South Korea) Apr 2026
Tested a wallet-based remittance system, then on-chain transfers to the UAE and Thailand. There is no confirmation those transfers used XRP [13].
Bank for International Settlements Sep 2026
Built a proof of concept that anchors official statistics on XRPL so anyone can verify published data. The BIS calls it a proof of concept, not a live service [14].
Reported, but not confirmed
Treat with cautionThese names circulate widely as XRP adopters. The evidence is thinner.
Deutsche Bank Feb 2026
German press reported Deutsche Bank integrating Ripple technology for payments, FX and custody. Neither company has issued a formal announcement, and the reporting says the bank is not using XRP or On-Demand Liquidity [15].
Korean banks at XRP Seoul 2026
Kakao Bank, Woori Bank and Kbank were described as interested in XRPL pilots [16]. Woori, however, has not announced any Ripple deal [13].
"30 Ripple-connected banks" in SWIFT's new framework 2026
Lists naming HSBC, JPMorgan, Bank of America and others count past RippleNet messaging ties. The same reporting notes that only about 40% of RippleNet partners use the XRP-based On-Demand Liquidity service [17].
Ripple's own move into banking
Ripple received conditional approval from the OCC for a national trust bank charter in December 2025 and has until June 2027 to meet its opening conditions. A trust bank can custody assets, manage RLUSD reserves and provide settlement services, but it cannot take deposits or make loans. Ripple has also applied for a Federal Reserve master account, which has not been granted [18].
So, is there a "switch"?
Based on everything confirmed, no single switch is waiting to be flipped. Adoption is happening deal by deal, and most of the biggest institutional deals run on RLUSD and the XRP Ledger rather than on the XRP token. In Convera's case, XRP isn't mentioned at all [11].
That doesn't make XRP irrelevant. More assets and activity on XRPL mean more accounts holding XRP reserves and more fees burned, and payment firms like SBI Remit show that real XRP corridors exist. But the direct, token-level demand story is still mostly ahead of us, not behind us.
What would change our view: confirmed production rollouts rather than stage appearances, disclosed transaction volumes, and clear statements that XRP, not just Ripple's software or RLUSD, is used in settlement [13].
We'll keep tracking these names and update the list as pilots go live or fall away.
